In this project, the prompt I created was to create a responsive website design for a restaurant. The conception of this project felt similar to the TOWN project I worked on, so I wanted to have fun creating a responsive website design instead of focusing on any menus or anything like that. Company identity, logo ideation, and user experience were all my main focuses of this website. To begin this, like many of my other projects, I imagined a fictional company to get the ball rolling. Grains Bakery is a restaurant and bakery dedicated to baking artisanal baked goods that celebrate the simple joy found in quality ingredients. The shop started in a small kitchen in the heart of a seacoast town where flour dusted hands and a passion for baking collided and blossomed into what it is today. Now that I had a good idea of the company, I wanted to deliver a website product that represented the visuals of a traditional bakery, but also expressed the aspects of modern websites. To achieve this, I stuck with soft desaturated colors of brown, beige, and white and went for a more modern looking typography and overall website design. At the same time, it was important that I maintained a feeling of a welcoming and laid-back appearance that invited locals and visitors into its warmth so I made sure that the colors were warm and that these general warm colors were unified throughout the entire website, including the images. Additionally, I sketched the iconic storefront to display front-and-center to welcome and familiarize the website users into its welcoming atmosphere. I included simple navigation for optimal user experience and properly accounted for everything the client would need its user to interact with including location, menu, online ordering, and links to other media. Finally, I converted these designs into two other common formats of mobile and tablet to maintain responsive design.
